TTT Smells of Desperation: Vermont Law School Partners With Historically Black Colleges and Universities, in Order to Exploit More Lemmings

http://www.vermontlaw.edu/News_and_Events/News_Releases/Vermont_Law_Partners_with_Historically_Black_Colleges_and_Universities.htm

The Toilet's Press Release: On February 4, 2014, Vermont Law Sewer furnished a press release labeled “Vermont Law Partners with Historically Black Colleges and Universities.”

“Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, and Morehouse College and Spelman College in Atlanta, Ga., are the first Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to sign partnership agreements with Vermont Law School, the ultimate goal of which is to expand racial and ethnic diversity in the legal profession.

Each partnership is tailored to the interests of the college or university. The agreement with Central State University, for example, is specifically designed to attract prospective students to the JD/Master of Environmental Law and Policy and the JD/Master of Energy Regulation and Law programs at Vermont Law School. The partnerships with Morehouse College and Spelman College are designed to facilitate admission of qualified students to law school in general and Vermont Law in particular.

Shirley Jefferson ’86, Dean of Student Affairs and Diversity at Vermont Law, has led the partnership initiative.

“At Vermont Law, we believe that we should be training the next generation of leaders who will make a difference in their communities and in the world,” Jefferson said. “These are colleges and universities with long histories of promoting racial justice and equality, and we are proud to partner with them.” [Emphasis mine]

Yeah, sure the law school pigs care about “racial justice,” “equality” and “representing traditionally voiceless communities.”  If you believe that nonsense, then you should not be allowed to make any decision that could possibly affect another person.  Those are mere code words, designed to cause suckers to incur substantial amounts of NON-DISCHARGEABLE debt - for a worthless product.

http://www.boston.com/news/education/2014/02/04/law-school-partnerships-expand-diversity/KaBuNSMHosTv11PP9J992M/story.html

Other Coverage: On February 4, 2014, the Boston Globe posted an AP story entitled “Vt Law School partnerships to expand diversity.”  From the opening:

“Vermont Law School has partnered with several historically black colleges and universities to expand racial and ethnic diversity in the legal profession.

The law school has partnered with Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, and Morehouse College and Spelman College in Atlanta.”

By the way, read the remaining two paragraphs of this piece.  Doesn’t it seem nearly identical to the press release?!?!  Hell, with newspapers slashing jobs, now many “reporters” simply run with a company’s talking points.

http://outsidethelawschoolscam.blogspot.com/2014/02/vermont-law-might-as-well-offer-free.html

OTLSS contributor MA posted an entry labeled “Vermont Law Might As Well Offer Free Balance Transfers Too” - on February 7, 2014.  Read the following excerpt:

“According to this press release, Vermont Law is signing partnership agreements with a few historically black colleges and universities (HBCU's). These agreements will allow students at these colleges to have access to pre-law counseling from real life law school counselors and a tuition break (cleverly disguised as scholarships) once they sign up for classes.

This plan by Vermont Law is a new direction that I can see more law schools taking. This agreement gives Vermont Law a captive audience at the HBCU's they are partnering with…After listening to their friendly Vermont Law counselors, these students will be convinced that a Vermont Law degree is the key to that $160,000 starting salary everyone talks about. The counselors have at least a year to whisper sweet fantasies into the students' ears and convince them three years in South Royalton is just like being in Lake Havasu and Harvard at the same time. I am sure that the HBCUs' administrations are getting a kickback here in exchange for pushing their undergrads towards law schools like lambs being led to the slaughter. It's a win-win for the schools, even if the students are being lured into financial ruin.” [Emphasis mine]

There is no honor among academic thieves.  In their eyes, students are a means to an end, i.e. federally-backed student loans.

http://vtdigger.org/2013/06/27/vermont-law-school-makes-more-cuts-as-class-size-drops/

Faculty Cuts Back in June 2013: On June 27, 2013, the Vermont Journalism Trust published a Alicia Freese piece, headlined “Vermont Law School makes more cuts as class size drops.”  Check out this opening:

“Starting last September, VLS enacted a plan to shrink the school in response to a tuition dollar drought that left it with a $3.3 million budget gap. The school attracted national attention last winter when it cut 12 staff positions — 10 were through voluntary buyouts and two were involuntary.

This past spring, in a quieter move, VLS whittled down its faculty. Eight professors, of the 40 who were eligible, voluntarily moved from full-time to part-time positions. [VLS "president" Marc] Mihaly estimated that two or three other positions were eliminated when professors departed for personal reasons.” [Emphasis mine]

Does anyone with an IQ above room temperature want to argue that this is a mere coincidence?!?!  The school is losing money - and now the sewer rats will do whatever they can to keep their lice-infested heads above water.

Conclusion: In the final analysis, the cockroaches at 119th ranked VermonTTT Law Sewer are desperate for asses in seats.  Furthermore, the commode is independent, i.e. it is not attached to a larger univer$ity.  The bastards have a tiny endowment, which means that they cannot sustain several, consecutive, small class sizes.  The pigs at VLS simply want to take advantage of black students, under the guise of “providing them with the opportunity to enter the legal profession.”  This is beyond sickening, as the “professors” and administrators of this school KNOW that a TTT law degree will not financially benefit the vast majority of graduates.  In fact, attending this toilet will merely result in the students incurring additional sums of NON-DISCHARGEABLE debt - and garbage job prospects.

  2. The law schools (and colleges and universities for that matter too) don't give a shit about the students. It's all about getting their hands on that student loan money.

  3. Vermont already produces too many lawyers. 7.9 lawyers for every legal job, the highest rate in the country. For information next are Michigan with 5.4, Massachusetts 4.4, and Mississippi 4.3.

  4. Any 4-year college worth going to should realize that it is in their best interest to have alumni that aren't financially sodomized. College admins should be reading their pre-law advisers the Riot Act - steer people away from law school, or else.
At least, I would. But I actually want things to work out long-term. Might not be a sentiment shared by higher ed bastards.

  6. Very clever! Law deans have been exploiting African-American students for years with their reverse robin hooding merit scholarships. This takes it one more step. This reminds me of Hofstra's night program, which was created by David Yellen so that Hofstra would have a pool of night students to draw on to create more merit scholarships for day students.

  10. Law school deans made their careers by writing articles calling for social justice. Now that they have made it they don't care about social justice any more. They feel fine exploiting minorities and the poor because it helps them retain their high salaries. If someone else did it they would be writing law review articles. The law school deans are just as bad as the southern segregationists of the 50s and 60s.

  12. Pretty hilarious that these ugly scum-sucking law deans pretend to care for minorities. They destroy their lives with huge non-dischargeable debt. Where is all the caring and love for graduates who can't find jobs? Where is all the outpouring of help and support for indebted, unemployed, depressed law school grads? The whole law school industry is imploding. It's a joke and I look at everyone who goes to law school now like they're retarded.

Ranking: As you can see, VermonTTT Law Sewer is listed as the 119th greatest, most amazing and wonderful law school in the United States - according to US “News” & World Report. Why should anyone attend such a poorly rated toilet?

    http://www.vermontlaw.edu/Career_Paths/Employment_Statistics.htm

Employment “Placement” Statistics: The trash pit had 208 members of its 2012 graduating class. Of that amount, 158 were employed in some capacity within nine months of receiving their TTT law degree. A total of 38 were hired in those wonderful “JD Advantage” positions. That represents 76.7 PERCENT of this cohort! HOW IN THE HELL IS THAT GOING TO BENEFIT BLACK STUDENTS, especially when they are not from Vermont and have no connections?!?!

Additionally, nine grads were seeking another advanced degree - and three did not supply their status to the school. The school claims that “only” 36 members of this TTT class were unemployed - with 25 seeking a job and 11 not looking for work. For $ome rea$on, the bastards “forgot” to count the nine in graduate school as Unemployed. Then again, I’m sure that was merely one of those “errors” committed by the law school pigs that inevitably favors the school, right?!?!

    http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-law-schools/grad-debt-rankings/page+2

Average Law Student Indebtedness: At least this school is rated in the first tier - when it comes to this figure! The commode is ranked 32nd in USN&WR’s listing of average indebtedness of 2012 graduates who incurred law school debt. These poor souls took on an additional $132,337 in NON-DISCHARGEABLE debt for a TTT law degree from Vermont Law $chool. In fact, 95% of this class incurred such toxic debt.

Apparently, VL$ doesn’t concern itself with filling the American landscape with more debt-strapped graduates. The pigs only ostensibly care about the natural environment. By the way, shouldn’t these college graduates know BEFORE they enter law school that the only way to make a decent living in “environmental law” is to work for the corporate polluters?!?! Plus, how many Vermont Law grads will even get a serious look from pigs such as ExxonMobil, PhillipsConoco, Dow Chemical, GM, Archer Daniels Midland, etc.?

In sum, any tuition discounts - billed as scholarships - offered as part of this evil relationship will not benefit these students. Hell, look at the sewage pit’s own pathetic employment stats. Now, imagine how well new black students from HBCUs in Atlanta and Ohio will fare in the Vermont lawyer job market. This is a sick joke.

Under the blanket of “diversity,” the law school cockroaches will in fact consign these students to a lifetime of debt servitude. Let’s tear into the VermonTTT Law Sewer pigs, until there is nothing left of their carcasses!

  28. I'm an alumni of Morehouse and I feel depressed that my college would partner with such a third tier institution as Vermont Law School. This partnership not help any Morehouse man, nor will it help the Black race, nor will it help Vermont which doesn't seem to have enough people to justify an entire law school, nor will it help America.

If you're a man of Morehouse, or woman of Spelman or a student at any other college reading this; know this, you must aim for Yale if you want to be a lawyer, or failing that Harvard. I do not say this out of any notion of elitism, but rather because this appears to be the minimum the legal profession seems willing to accept.

Vermont Law School even looks like a fly-by-night operation, complete with how it appears to be headquartered in a large house. Except this operation seems to have been stealing people's money since 1973.

    2. I am a recent Morehouse alumni myself and I feel that this is a slap in the face to all our students. I had pretty decent relationships with our pre-law advisors while I was there, and I am actually shocked that they would let our administration partner with a law school with the reputation that Vermont has. While I was on campus, and as an alum, I have always implored that men of Morehouse and women of Spelman who were interested in law school take the time to learn all they can about the legal profession and what it will take for them to have these so-called dream careers (if they even exist anymore).

I'm glad I found this today and will be making calls to inquire into this more to see what's up. I have a feeling that even with this partnership there are enough students in the AUC that know better and still wouldn't give Vermont the time of day.

  30. Check out this November 27, 2012 WAMC report from Pat Bradley, which was labeled "Law School President Discusses Restructuring Plan." Here is the entire transcript:

    http://wamc.org/post/law-school-president-discusses-restructuring-plan

"On October 26, the Vermont Law School inaugurated its new Dean and President. During his speech, Marc Mihaly said the field of law was changing and law schools must adjust to new markets and technology. Vermont Law School President Marc Mihaly talks about the financial and educational restructuring that is occurring at Vermont’s only college of law.

Vermont Law School Dean and President Marc Mihaly is an expert in land use and energy law and policy. He came to the Vermont Law School as a visiting professor in 2004, and joined the faculty full time in 2005."

Yes, the market for the law school pigs is changing - because the consumers and potential applicants are MUCH better informed today, due to our collective efforts. You're welcome, bitches.

Cockroach Marc Mihaly recognized that Third Tier VermonTTT Law Sewer had to adjust to new markets and technology, back in late November 2012. Apparently, this is his idea of expanding recruitment to his toilet.

    From Pig Mihaly’s faculTTTy profile:

    http://www.vermontlaw.edu/Our_Faculty/Faculty_Profiles/Marc_Mihaly.htm

“Like many other faculty and staff at Vermont Law School, Marc Mihaly is a true people person. Long before he became interested in the law, he was concerned with issues of equality, race, and social justice. During his childhood in Cincinnati, Ohio, he lived in a university community that fostered liberal thinking in an otherwise conservative atmosphere. "When I was twelve years old," he says, "I campaigned for Kennedy—but I was definitely in the minority."

In 1969, after finishing college at Harvard, Mihaly joined the Peace Corps. "My time in El Salvador was the most intense period of my life," he explains. "As a political organizer, I was living and working in a slum. I learned about politics, equality, poverty, organization—and especially about people. The mayor, whom I admired, was a lawyer, and since I wasn't sure what else I wanted to do, I decided to try law school."

At this time, Richard Nixon had recently been elected, and people were still reeling from the Kent State massacre. "It was a terrible time," Mihaly says. Nevertheless, he continued his battle against poverty and inequality by working for legal aid while attending Boalt Hall School of Law in Berkeley, California. On a whim, he also joined the Ecology Law Quarterly, serving as its editor in chief from 1973–74. "It was another way to throw myself into social change," he explains, "and it was my introduction to issues of energy and the environment. But in the end, I didn’t want to work in the environmental field after graduating. My heart was still with the people issues—equality and social justice."

It’s hilarious how these avowed academic liberals constantly state their passion for “equality” and “social justice” – but then seek to continue their exorbitant lifestyle on the backs of young black men and women. Simply put, these bastards have no integrity or honor!

Take a look at page one of the 2012 Form 990, for Vermont Law School, Inc. On line 12, under Revenue, you will see that the school had $36,599,979 in TOTAL REVENUE – for the tax year covering July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. Of that amount, only $226,447 was investment income.

Now go to Expenses. On line 18, you will notice that the commode spent a total of $35,991,882 that year. Of course, $18,281,957 of the total expenses went toward salaries, other compensation, and employee benefits. In the end, the toilet had $608,097 in Revenue Less Expenses. This is reflected on line 19.

Scroll down to lines 20-22 of the first page. Check out the following End of Year figures:

    Total assets: $46,105,174
    Total liabilities: $19,133,361
Net assets or fund balances: $26,971,813

In sum, this third tier commode does not have much room for error. For instance, the school’s end of year total assets only amounted to $9,628,166 less than its TOTAL ONE YEAR REVENUE for July 1, 2011-June 30, 2012, i.e. $36,599,979-26,971,813! That is an incredibly low margin. Too bad, mainstream news sources haven’t covered this aspect in their weak-ass coverage.

VermonTTT Law Sewer truly is desperate for asses in seats. After viewing their tax form, you can see why that is the case. The pigs need more revenue, in order to keep themselves afloat – especially with prior years of declining enrollment. VLS has already cut staff, including faculty. If they cannot boost enrollment soon, then they will need to slash their budget further.

  39. This is a truly disgusting and despicable move. They are obviously preying on African-American students who may not be as keenly aware of the economic realities of the legal field and white collar professional employment generally. The "sweet spot" for law schools has always been the middle class/upper middle class white/asians who went to law school purely for greed, status, and to make as much money as possible. But those applicants aren't taking the plunge anymore because they have begun doing their own research. So now the pigs are going to advertise about "justice" and try to hit a chord with these minority kids regarding police brutality, civil rights, stand-your-ground laws, etc. and since these kids don't have direct family/network connections who can show them the grisly state of affairs the pigs can just say "you'll be making $500 an hour out there!" and these kids may actually believe it because they don't have the exposure to that world. It's disgusting.

On line 12, under Revenue, you will see that the school had $34,737,990 in TOTAL REVENUE – for the tax year covering July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. Of that amount, only $1,484,157 was investment income.

Now go to Expenses. On line 18, you will notice that the commode spent a total of $31,290,647 that year. Of course, $16,240,075 of the total expenses went toward salaries, other compensation, and employee benefits. In the end, the toilet had $3,447,343 in Revenue Less Expenses. This is reflected on line 19.

Scroll down to lines 20-22 of the first page. Check out the following End of Year figures:

    Total assets: $90,461,837
    Total liabilities: $24,136,275
Net assets or fund balances: $66,325,562

This third tier toilet does not have much room for error. It is an independent law school, which means that it cannot rely on help from a parent college or university.

The dean and board of TTTru$TTTee$ at Albany Law Sewer are thinking about the long term viability of the trash pit. For $ome rea$on, many of the cockroaches on the faculty are only concerned with themselves. They have become fat off of the federally-backed student loan system - and at the expense of young people.

In the final analysis, the “law professors” recognize that they are not going to be sought after in the job market. What law firm would hire an ass-hat who is used to writing arcane, non peer-reviewed articles in obscure journals? Who the hell wants to employ a rodent who only “works” 10 hours a week?!?!

No more staying in your office, while reading the Wall Street Journal and New York Times and various blogs, bitches. Put your nose to the grindstone, academic swine. Get out there and work your contacts in the legal field. Network, douche-bags! You may need to find work in Nebraska, but that will help YOU get over YOUR sense of entitlement.

In the alternative, these jackals can surely go out and find one of those numerous, prestigious “JD Advantage” jobs that they love to point out, right?!?! If these “professors” are so passionate about the law, that will also come through in their interviews.

As I have said in the past, these “educators” would rather die than work in the legal field or hold down an actual job. These vile pieces of trash should simply take the buyout, retire, keep their mouths shut, and be happy that they were able to scam the public - and their students - for several decades.
